Private Cake Decorating and Baking Lessons

While many people love the no-mess and worry-free aspect of ordering cakes from the professionals, there are some who watch in awe as cake artists show off their skills through television shows or online videos and wish they could do something like that. The great news is, with proper instruction and practice anyone can learn to master the art of cake decorating, which is why I offer private instruction for clients of any age or ability.

Baking at high altitude, working in an arid climate, and the fickle nature of culinary arts are all stumbling blocks my clients encounter when they hit the kitchen to try and bake something wonderful. All too often, people are left feeling defeated and disappointed when the cake they were baking or the cupcake they tried to decorate ends up looking like a horrible mess. Many years ago, I was even in that same position. But with the help of my own wonderful instructor, I learned how to approach baking and decorating with confidence and ease, and am now dedicated to helping my clients achieve their goals as well.

You don't have to have dreams of being a professional or expect to appear on the next season of Cupcake Wars, but anyone who wants to create well-designed and clean looking cakes for birthdays, holidays, or other special occasions throughout the year can benefit from proper hands-on instruction. There are certainly a lot of videos online and free resources to take advantage of, and you should absolutely use them! But when you book a private lesson with a real teacher, you will always receive personalized instruction to learn the skills you want and need, and are able to ask any questions you have and be corrected when needed. The author of a blog or the chef in a video will never know if your hand placement is correct, if you're using the right icing, or if your cakes are being baked with enough leaven.

But when you hire That Cake Lady of Santa Fe, I can help you identity your needs, your skills, and your best path to go forward in your cake crafting journey. I produce lessons that are completely customizable to what you would like to learn and the projects you're most interested in, with everything from basic piping skills to advanced gum-paste work and sugar art. I am available for one lesson or multiple sessions and can arrange to teach right in your own home, in a rented meeting space, or from my own home bakery. You are also welcome to invite others to your lesson and take this journey with your friends or family members. Materials are not typically provided but can be upon request.
